Why "Coming Soon" Pages Hurt Your Google Rankings
A lot of local businesses buy a domain, throw up a "coming soon" page, and think they are at least getting started.
The problem is that the page usually does almost nothing for Google.
A "coming soon" page does not clearly explain what your business does, where you do it, or why someone should contact you. Most of the time it is just a logo, a sentence, and maybe an email form. That is not enough information for Google to understand the business, and it is not enough for customers either.
So even though the site is technically live, it is still almost invisible.
This matters because Google wants real content. It wants to see service information, location signals, contact details, and pages that help match your business to what people are searching for. A weak placeholder page does not give Google much to work with.
There is also a customer side to this.
If someone clicks to your website and sees "coming soon," that does not build trust. It usually makes the business look unfinished or inactive. In a lot of cases, that person just goes back and calls someone else.
A basic website is almost always better than a placeholder.
You do not need a giant custom build to get started. Even a simple site with a homepage, service info, your phone number, your service area, and a contact form gives Google and your customers a lot more to work with than a blank page ever will.
That is the real fix.
If your site is still sitting on a "coming soon" page, replace it with something real. Keep it simple, but make sure it answers a few basic questions: What do you do? Where do you do it? How can someone contact you? Why should they trust you?
That alone puts you in a better position than most placeholder sites.
A basic site that is clear and live will almost always do more for your business than a perfect site that never gets finished.
